Frequently asked questions

Product Information

All relevant information pertaining to each product is provided on the packaging and/or label.

How does Heat Therapy work?

Heat penetrates a few centimeters into tissue, and stimulates the skin's sensory receptors when the tissue temperature rises. Heat decreases transmission of pain signals to the brain, and helps to increase blood flow to the painful area, which in turn expedites healing.

Why use a cold compress?

A cold compress slows blood flow, decreases inflammation and slows nerve conduction, all of which help to reduce pain.

Why use flaxseed as a filler?

Flaxseed provides a gentle, moist heat which promotes healing. Flaxseeds are flower seeds and contain 30-40% oil which remains inside the seed to be warmed again and again.

What is Aromatherapy?

Sometimes also called Essential Oil Therapy, it is a holistic healing treatment that uses essential oil or dried medicinal herbs to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit. It enhances both physical and emotional health.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils are concentrated plant extracts that retain the natural smell and essence of their source.

How do I heat my Flaxi Bag?

Simply heat in the microwave in 30 second increments until the bag feels warm. Place the bag over the painful area. The filling will gently shape to the body and offer targeted pain relief. It will retain its heat for up to 40 minutes. Flaxi Bag can be reheated many times over. Let it cool down completely before reheating.

How do I use my Flaxi Bag as a cold compress?

Place your Flaxi Bag in the freezer inside a sealed bag for 30 minutes or until cold.

How do I care for my Flaxi Bag?

When cared for properly your Flaxi Bag should last for several years. Do not wash or immerse in water. Use a damp sponge to lightly cleanse the outside of the bag. Store in an airtight container after cooling to preserve its fragrance.

How long will the fragrance last?

Over time the active therapeutic essential oil fragrance will dissipate. Essential oils are volatile oils, which means they evaporate, like perfume. We recommend the use of Flaxi Bag Refresher Mists to revive the fragrance of your Flaxi Bag once the aroma has dissipated completely. Alternatively, prior to use, add 2 to 3 drops of pure Lavender essential oil onto the bag which will be absorbed by the flaxseed.

It is important to note that Flaxi Bags are still very effective for heat therapy, as a cold compress, or for comfort even without the additional benefits of essential oil therapy.

Are there any safety concerns?

*Flaxi Hot/Cold Headache Compress and Flaxi Flu Bag should be avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

*Do not apply heat to obviously injured or infected tissue (swelling, red and/or hot), accute inflamation (e.g. flare-up of arthritis), or broken skin. Instead, use your Flaxi Bag as a cold compress in those instances.

*Do not overheat Flaxi Bag inside the microwave as it will scorch when heated for too long. If you notice a burning smell it has been overheated. Let it cool and dispose of it.

*If you have a serious medical condition and are unsure about the use of essential oil therapy, please discuss it with your doctor prior to use.
